The Foundations of Empathetic Leadership

Patrick Burke introduces himself as not an expert in any of the topics being presented. He is simply a person who’s been exposed to a variety of psychological concepts – potentially “learning ahead of you” – and is excited to have an opportunity to share them with you, in the hope that one or more of them will be helpful to grow as a human and as a leader. Most introductions begin with a litany of accomplishments and such, but Patrick is just another businessperson who has learned all of these topics himself by being curious about people, and leadership, and thinks you can too.

Patrick’s experience in this area comes from, in loose order of impact:

1) being married to an amazing woman who is a marriage and family therapist;

2) intensive study of parenting styles (see #1) and how that relates to leadership;

3) 12 years growing a restaurant group to 125+ team members, which requires intensive people and management skills (like being an unlicensed counselor); and

4) an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Vanderbilt University.

Emotional Agility is a journey Patrick is on as a husband, father, friend, and leader, he welcomes others to the trail (or trailhead).

Patrick has degrees from Vanderbilt University in psychology, law and an MBA in Finance. He worked in top law firms and investment banks in New York before becoming a serial entrepreneur, launching multiple businesses in the hospitality and entertainment space in Nashville, TN.
