Align Technologies’ Eugene Terk joined the Scaling Up Business Podcast last week to take a deep look at what it means to “scale up.” Eugene and host Bill Gallagher ran through a variety of topics including the fantastic customer experience at the Ritz-Carlton, the importance of huddles in large corporations, and even Bitcoin.
Both Bill and Eugene gushed over their experiences at Ritz-Carlton hotels. The company was scaled up by Horst Schulze, who detailed the rise of the hotel titan in his book, Excellence Wins.
Eugene explained that a Ritz-Carlton staff commits to huddles at every level to ensure they deliver outstanding experiences to everyone who stays at the hotel. This commitment is rewarded by creating a brand loyalty in the customers. Bill and Eugene both compared their affection for staying at a Ritz-Carlton to flying on Southwest Airlines. Both felt very safe and secure knowing they were with an airline they trust, and that trust was built through a commitment to pleasing customers.
Bill and Eugene also dive into the current market volatility. $1 of bitcoin invested in 2010 would now be worth $90K. Yet it’s considered a risky investment. Gold and oil are both valued extremely low today. Why is this? Bill and Eugene explain that these values are dangerously unpredictable.
